''Daddy''

Daddy, what can I say about
A man who gave me everything;
Love, kindness, devotion ~
But most of all, himself?

With your gentle spirit,
You could sing.
Yes, you were
My everything.

Mom told me, when I was born,
I weighed only three pounds.
In the incubator for six weeks,
I had to stay with no car around.

You walked and hitch hiked to see me
And times, back then, were really bad.
Mom had to stay at home
And it made her feel so sad.

When I made my Holy Communion,
You put just me in a taxi cab.

Later on, when I married and
Made a renewal at church,
You wrote me the saddest letter.

You said that you were sorry,
As tears ran down your cheeks.
You said that you
Should have know better.

Daddy, that note means so much to me.
For, it told of my father's love;
A love that is deep in my heart,
As you rest with God, above.

When you were told that you
Had cancer and you wouldn't live,
It took me all day to go to your bed.
For, tears were all I had to give.

You said, "Rather me
Than any of you, my family."
Valiant, noble, and gracious
All fit you to a tee.
My Daddy is and
Was my guiding light.
You came to me, as an angel,
And asked me to write.

I just want you to know
That, for you and for God,
The Holy Spirit guides my hands
And gives me the words ...

To write 'only Christian poems'.
I know you are in Heaven
And that's your new home.

My everything had
The most beautiful blue eyes,
Silver hair, and gentle touch.
He, now, walks with Jesus
And I loved him so much.

To my everything, I must say,
"My love for you just seems to grow.
For, God gave me the gift of poetry
And it sparkles like you,
From my head down to my toe.

I can see you, now, walking and singing,
And writing a blessed tune.
I promise I will strive to make Heaven
And be home with you, soon."
